Lebanese Strong Transparent Democracy Organization (LSTDO)

Lebanese current events of Novembre 24, 2007.
Reflexions on the political and economic Lebanese  news.

The Patriarch SFEIR President can be the last resort!

I – The facts:

1
Again, Mr. Nabih Berry, Speaker of the Parliament, adjourned the meeting of parliament on 23 November 2007 for the fifth time for the election of a president of the republic.

2
The proposal by the General AOUN of November 22, 2007 for an agreement was immediately rejected by the March 14 group and the majority government.

3
The list of candidates for the presidency, which was made by the Patriarch SFEIR did not give the negotiators Saad Hariri and Nabih Berry to find a candidate acceptable to all political parties in Lebanon.

4
Most political leaders show their respect and acceptance of the wishes of the Patriarch SFEIR.

5
Currently, the Patriarch SFEIR personality is the most sought to help manage the Lebanese crisis.

6
General AOUN is linked with agreements with HIZBALLAH. They put vetoes against the nominations from 14 March group.

7
Meanwhile the leaders of the majority reject the candidacy of General AOUN.

8
We arrived on Nov. 24, 2007 to the vacancy of the presidency of the republic without a foreseeable solution that could lead to the peaceful election of a president of national understanding.

9
At the same time, and because of fears of a civil war by Hezbollah militias, most of the political leaders of the majority continue to seek an agreement to avoid elect a president by a simple majority. The election of a president by half the members plus one is denied by the opposition that threatens to armed strife.

II - The new proposal of the LSTDO: Patriarch SFEIR president until elections of 2009!

1
We know that the Syrian regime has armed HIZBALLAH and its political allies in Lebanon sufficiently, to continue to influence the fate of the country.

2
We want a peaceful settlement between the Lebanese for a social balance and a true democracy.

3
The Directorate of LSTDO worried blockages of the Lebanese political system, had offered to deputies of Lebanon a proposal dated June 27, 2007 for a temporary solution for a period of two years with a provisional president, a head of a provisional government, and a provisional government with a clear program to create a new electoral law and hold the elections before finishing in the election of a democratic president. This proposal has been commented upon often hostilely by political leaders. It was in the best interests of the Lebanese citizen and the poor. But it disturbs feudalism in the powers of the State.

4
On November 22, 2007, the proposal of General AOUN appeared similar in principle to the proposal of June 27, 2007 of LSTDO. The point is to manage the country temporarily by an interim government of national accord to create a new electoral law of votes at the district level and then elect a president from a parliament representative of the people and after a fair electoral law.

5
On November 24, 2007, the only person who remains respected and supported by all parties in the political conflict is the Patriarch SFEIR.

6
The LSTDO is campaigning for the secular nature of the Lebanese state at the same time with a balanced sharing of power between the Lebanese communities to prevent religious distrust. But it now appears that only a religious man, the Patriarch SFEIR, is the only possible agreement to turn the corner of the current political crisis. We say even the Muslim politicians solicit his support more than Christian personalities.

7
We want Patriarch SFEIR kindly accepts this commitment claimed throughout the entire population of Lebanon. He is the reference of the start of the cedar revolution. He can break the current impasse if he so wishes by agreeing to be president of the republic.

8
If Patriarch refuses the proposal, we will be committed to do the election by a simple majority for a president of the republic, leaving the current deputies choose among the candidates, organizing the selection by several rounds of voting.
